Dr Tom Burchell is a Consultant Cardiologist based across Bristol, Bath, and Taunton. He provides specialist care in all areas of cardiology, including palpitations, atrial fibrillation (AF), blackouts, hypertension, heart failure, valve disorders, and rhythm abnormalities.
He completed his medical degree at Imperial College School of Medicine, London, where he also gained a BSc through intercalated study. His cardiology training took place in the North East Thames region, followed by two years of postgraduate research at University College London, focusing on stem cell therapy for heart attack patients. His findings have been published in several respected international journals.
Dr Burchell received advanced sub-specialty training in Coronary Intervention at the London Heart Attack Centre. His previous roles include three years at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and the Bristol Heart Institute, before spending seven years at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. During his time there, he served as both Clinical Lead for Cardiology and Clinical Director of Medicine. He later returned to Bath to help expand and enhance the hospital’s complex coronary intervention service.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Burchell is actively involved in medical education and training, mentoring junior doctors and delivering lectures at international cardiology conferences. He also serves as a proctor for complex coronary devices, sharing his expertise with consultant colleagues throughout the UK.
His principal area of interest lies in the management of complex coronary artery disease. He is highly skilled in modern interventional techniques, including the treatment of chronic total occlusions, rotational atherectomy, and advanced intracoronary imaging.
